Following a call for applications for vacancies within the committee, nominees must have a current individual membership of the society. They will be asked to submit their application which will be circulated to SVN members at least 21 days before the Annual General Meeting, held during the annual conference.   Nominees will be elected at the AGM and will need to be proposed and seconded by another SVN member. When there is more than one applicant for a committee vacancy, voting will take with a show of hands at the AGM.  Committee vacancies will be advertised on the website as well as within the Vascular Matters newsletter, 3 months before the election is due to take place at the AGM

The committee has twelve members and these include:

  • The President
  • The Vice President
  • The Past President
  • Honorary Secretary
  • Honorary Treasurer

Seven other members make up the committee, each tasked with a role to assist the President with the running of the society in order to meet its objectives. Committee roles include:

  • Conference Organiser
  • Vascular Matters Editor/Co-Editor
  • Evening Symposium Organiser
  • Research and Development Lead
  • Nursing Competencies Project Lead

  • Memberships

Committee Affiliations

The society has affiliations with other societies/committees, and committee roles may include affiliations with such organisations.  Currently these are:

  • The Vascular Society
  • The Circulation Foundation
  • The Venous Forum
  • Vascular Clinical Reference Group (NHS England)
  • Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm QIP

Committee Meetings

These are held quarterly, three at the Royal College of Surgeons, London; and one held on the eve of the annual conference.  It is expected that committee members each attend as a minimum three out of four meetings each year.

Committee Member Responsibilities

Each committee member will have at least one committee role; and may also be affiliated to another society/committee with an expectation to provide communication back to the committee. The committee member is expected to provide a verbal report at each meeting to give feedback on any developments within their role, as well as use email communication between each meeting to keep the rest of the committee abreast with any developments.  As the society does not have any hired conference organisers, each member will also be expected to attend the annual conference and participate in the organisational aspect of the conference on the day.
