Management of Vascular Patients
Vascular Disease Management
This on line module in vascular disease management is designed for anyone who is interested in the care of patients with vascular disease.
The module involves students listening to discussions about many aspects of the investigation, treatment and management of vascular disease. The discussions involve experts in the field who describe their role and the dilemmas involved in their work
In addition there are interviews with patients who have undergone vascular procedures to illustrate the human aspects of the treatments which are offered.
Outline of contents.
Among the subjects for discussion we have the following
Care of the patient with sub arachnoid haemorrhage
Carotid endarterectomy
Radiological investigation of the vascular system
Interventional radiological procedures
Exercising the claudicating limb
Lower limb ischaemia
The epidemiology of peripheral vascular disease
The role of the specialist vascular nurse
Anaesthetising the vascular patient
Post operative care of the patient following aortic surgery
The role of the vascular investigation laboratory
The care of the diabetic foot
The care of patients with leg ulcers
Interviewees include anaesthetists, surgeons, specialist nurses, radiologists, podiatrists and physiologists
Patients are also interviewed on the subject of: varicose vein surgery, thoracic outlet surgery, carotid Doppler scanning following stroke and amputation.

This module is designed to improve the knowledge and skills of health care practitioners in caring for and promoting the health of patients with Vascular Disease. This includes: health promotion, pathophysiology; incidence and prevalence; management including assessment and conservative management; radiological and surgical interventions; rehabilitation; limb amputation and role of the patient and multidisciplinary team.
