Guys and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, in collaboration with BPP University are offering two Vascular Courses:


Level 7 / 20 credits – Vascular Care

(Aimed towards ward nurses and other MDT professionals)


Level 7 / 20 credits – Specialised Practice in Vascular Nursing Care

(Senior Vascular nurses, CNS’ and nurses working in Vascular Hub units)

Introduction to Vascular Care

This course is designed to help students develop comprehensive evidence based knowledge, apply critical thinking and innovative approaches to service delivery that will positively influence the quality of life for patients with vascular care needs.

What will this course cover?

The anatomy and physiology of the vascular system and its relationship to the pathophysiology of vascular disease and its impact on other related systems.

All aspects of Arterial, Occlusive, Aneurysmal disease and Venous disorders from diagnosis through to the care and the medical, surgical and nursing management.

Early detection, prevention and management of vascular disease and health promotion incorporating Local & National Vascular Guidelines

Psychological and psychosocial implications of vascular disease for patients.

And the assessment of clinical competence will focus on the achievement of the specialist competencies in the vascular care setting. The clinical assessments will be carried out throughout the module.

This course is developed and offered by Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust with accreditation from Buckinghamshire New University and you would need to be either employed by Imperial or be seconded in order to take the course.
